What is a Vape Coil?
The coil is arguably the most important component of any vaping device. The coil is connected directly to the battery of your device and when activated, heats the E-Liquid to produce vapour.
How Often Should You Change Your Vape Coil?
A brand new coil should last for up to two weeks. This is because the E-Liquid tends to leave a thin layer of residue on the coil when it’s been vaporised. Over time, this will build up around the coil and end up clogging your device.
This is is why we recommend you change your coil every 1-2 weeks and you should also make sure to clean your device’s components regularly.
Signs You Should Change Your Vape Coil
While we’ve given you a recommended time frame of how often you should be changing your vape coil, this can vary from device to device for a variety of factors such as:
- The E-Liquid you use
- How often you use your vape
- The quality of the components you use
That’s why you also need to pay attention to any of these signs that your vape coil needs changing.
1. Burning Taste
If you’re experiencing a burnt taste when you’re vaping, then there’s a possibility that you’re vaping a dead coil.
In this instance, you’ll need to change your coil as soon as possible because once you start taking burnt hits, you can begin exposing yourself to heavy metals. Taking one hit off a burnt coil isn’t the end of the world, but it is a sure sign that something needs to be sorted.
2. Gurgling Sounds
A strange or unfamiliar sound from any electronic device should raise some alarm bells and the same goes for your vape. If you begin to hear a gurgling noise then it may be time to switch out your coil for a fresh one.
If after changing your coil you still hear the gurgling noise, then there could be something seriously wrong with your vape and it may be time to seek advice from a professional vape shop.
3. Strange E-Liquid Flavour
There could be several reasons why your E-Liquid doesn’t taste quite right. It could be that you’ve just got a bad bottle, or it could mean that your coil is on the way out.
Funny tasting E-Liquid is usually the precursor to the foul, burnt taste of a dead coil so it’s best to take caution and investigate if your favourite E-Liquid is beginning to taste off.
A dead coil can also cause flavours to mix, so if you’ve recently switched from a menthol vape to something sweet and you taste a horrible combo of the two, it may be your coil’s fault.
If you’re all about mixing up flavours then it may be worth switching out your coil with each new flavour as well, just to be safe.
4. Less Vapour Production
As we’ve stated above, the coil is the part of the device that heats up to turn your E-Liquid into vapour. So, as your coil begins to make its way out, you may find it’s producing less and less vapour as it goes.
You can either change your coil immediately when you notice this change or, if you’re not all that into chasing clouds, you can wait until any of the other symptoms mentioned show up.
Please note that less vapour production can also be caused by a dying battery. Check your device’s charge and battery beforehand else you might end up changing your coil unnecessarily.
